I know what you mean Anthony. I guess I can hope that the money raised from this kind of game goes to something ‘good’, but the very unrealistic part of me wishes there could be a warning at the start stating ‘this game is not indicative of all games’ for the newbies’ sake

You could argue though that games like this turn out like they do because, well, what the hell would you do in this kind of game? Surely it would be more suited as a Singstar expansion pack? When the developers get a license like this and are told to ‘make it in to a game’, you can probably hear the uninspired sighs from space, as they churn out a shovelware walk about adventure.

At the end of the day, I suppose that projects like this are bread and butter work, and when there are people who will buy the game just because their spawn likes the face on the front, going to the effort just for a few extra sales may seem pointless when you can move on to something else to try and capture a bigger audience.

I do agree that it is a shame though that a lot of movie tie ins seem to go this way. Although I have heard promising things about the new Transformers game.

Yup it is a shame with other kids games, there should be more effort put into them. I guess while poor games still sell, there’s no need to improve them unfortunately

I’ve only heard snippets of her singing, I’m glad I’ve not heard more! Amazing what a bit of marketing can do

It’s almost a shame (almost) that they don’t put more effort into these games. They don’t need to, as they have a guaranteed and ignorant audience, but it’s a shame because even the flimsiest licence could provide a decent video game.

When it comes to big licences like this (and sadly, Hannah Montana is pretty huge*), it’s even more unforgivable. Look at the effort put into the last couple of Harry Potter games – why can’t Disney take that approach for their own franchises?

*I’m not sure why, because the girl cannot sing. The local radio we listen to in the office keeps playing The Climb all day – I guarantee it’s even more cringeworthy than the cutscenes you suffered

And meanwhile a 16 year old girl is now even more rich than we can ever dream of! I wasn’t expecting anything from this anyway, but glad you took the leap before me. Now you need to try My Horse and Me 2.
