Blog a Day 174of365: Ramble

I’ve just burnt my mouth while eating a slice of pizza far too enthusiastically. I’m a wuss when it comes to pain and thus currently all my brain is thinking is ‘OW! OW! OW! OW! OW! Make it stop damnit’. Not overly conducive to writing I’m sure you’ll agree.

I was going to write something today about how everyone has feet of clay. I don’t actually feel like it though so I won’t.

I slept better last night but not really enough to feel rejuvenated. It’s a start though.

I’ve got a fairly physical day on Friday helping my Aunt and Uncle move so I’d best get myself sorted by then!

So yes this is a waffly entry isn’t it? I was hoping that once I started, inspiration would kick in and some sort of coherent post would come about. That was obviously too big an expectation.

And now I’ve stopped to eat ice cream. It was nice. Even better it seems to have soothed my mouth a bit. Hurrah!

So where was I? Oh yes, nowhere.

Here’s something random for you. Since the World Cup has started, I’ve felt increasing urges to play a FIFA game. I haven’t got any FIFA games or so I thought, only Pro Evolution Soccer 6. I’ve got some money spare in my PayPal account and I’ve kept being increasingly tempted to buy FIFA 10 for the 360. I’m glad I resisted. Turns out I’ve got a promotional copy of it for the PS3 that I completely forgot about! Oops.

In the little recreational gaming time I’ve had lately, I’ve been busy with Red Dead Redemption anyhow. I’m gradually trying to 100% it but in a way that means it doesn’t feel like a tremendous effort. At the moment I’m busy collecting flowers which feels a bit strange. Quite therapeutic though so I can’t complain.

Hopefully next week I’ll have more time to game. It’s looking relatively quiet for me excluding the usual admin things. I’ll be rather happy if it stays that way too! It’ll also mean some time to do some dissertation research too. Always useful.

Enough rambling for one night.

Hot cheese in a pizza is officially the hottest substance on Earth.

Hot pizza in mouth = rookie mistake (one which I make on a frequent basis).

Btw, from your blog yesterday, on the topic of “Every worry possible hit me so I hardly got any sleep… The irrational part of my brain wants to walk away from absolutely everything and just get away for a bit.”

Probably stating the obvious, but this is anxiety, pure and simple. Your fears are overwhelming the rational part of your brain and are triggering your fight-or-flight mechanism. I get it all the time; it’s such a total drag. You’ve actually done a pretty smart thing by getting your thoughts down on page, as you’re also at the same time forcing yourself to think coherently, therefore rationally, about your problems.

What’s helped me recently is in considering that our existence is just a very small, temporary particle in space and time. I don’t know whether there’s a God or Heaven, but our lives form a very, very tiny part in the grander scheme of things. That is something I do know. Therefore, our troubles are an even lesser portion of the whole totality of our experience, which is in itself a drop in the ocean.

Anyway, enough of the cliched metaphors. Congrats on your recent promotion to Dep Ed of Resolution Mag. I’m certain you are the right person for the job. 🙂
