I’ve watched a few films this week so, for want of a better idea, here’s some rambling on them.

Sherlock Holmes
This was Monday’s film. I had it pre-ordered on Blu-ray after seeing it twice at the cinema and loving it. Annoyingly I was rather distracted while watching it so I could probably do with it seeing again. It’s a very entertaining romp, only loosely based on Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes of course but it’s good fun. And of course it’s got Robert Downey Jr in it which is no bad thing at all!

All About Steve
This film has had some absolutely awful reviews. I mostly rented it for two reasons: I like the two leads in it and it was free (work perk). Turns out it was ok though. Nowhere near as bad as the reviews made out. It is an odd one to recommend though but I liked it.

Furry Vengeance
Erm yeah. Orange Wednesday film. Admittedly not entirely my choice. I’d have probably seen Iron Man 2 for a second time or Robin Hood. I was in a pliable mood though so went along. It wasn’t awful. It wasn’t very good either. Brendan Fraser seems to be getting worse and it’s exactly what you’d expect really.

A Guide to Recognising Your Saints
This was a bit of a random choice. Guy at work knows I like Robert Downey Jr and recommended this. Turns out he’s not in it a huge deal as it’s mostly him looking back at his youth, as played by Shia LaBeouf. LaBeouf was very good in it and it’s an interesting coming of age film set in a dodgy part of New York. Based on the director’s memoir too which I always find makes things a little more interesting. Downey Jr also demonstrates he can act as he plays a quite understated part compared to his more recent roles.

I’ve still got a couple of films left to watch: Dan in Real Life and Bad Boys 2. I’ve seen Dan in Real Life before (it’s quite good) so I probably won’t bother again. Bad Boys 2 seemed like a good idea at the time but I doubt I’ll get round to it as both films are due back Saturday and I’ve probably got better things to watch already V+ed.

Yup it’s been an intelligent week for film watching! And to think I’ve still got to get round to watching Goodfellas and No Country for Old Men. I should be ashamed of myself really!
