[...] Other than that I’ve been trying to enjoy myself as best as possible, getting some games done such as Resident Evil 5, which is a hoot, a review by my friend Jennifer over at HalyCopter can be read which pretty much shares my views on the game in it’s entirety as we played the game through co-operatively. The review can be read here. [...]

The unlockables are definitely what make me keep going back to it too :) I'm still somewhat surprised that it's managed that as typically when I finish an action adventure game, that's it. They're not the sort of thing I tend to return to very often. A testament of an enjoyable game I suspect!
Except for that damn final boss.

I too absolutely hated the demo for RE5 when it came out. But I actually came round to liking the first half slightly more than the second. Like Michelle I much preferred the bleached and bright outdoor environments than going underground.

As for the story I loved the way it happily went as ridiculous as possible at times ( the huge cave-troll for one. And then flipped right back to utter seriousness inbetween. I don't know if that's a trait of the whole series but its one I appreciated anyway.

What keeps me going back are the unlockables. I just got the unlimited Magnum and that turns the whole game into a glorified, one-shot kill shooting gallery. Makes those Chainsaw encounters much more manageable!

I understand your issues with the beginning of the game - stylistically though I preferred being outdoors in the sunshine, than the darker, grungier levels.

I think that's why the demo worked out so well for me, as I struggled through the entire demo without being able to play properly before finally mastering the controls for the game when it was released. I probably would have been very, very disappointed with the control system if I hadn't played the demo. (Especially after playing RE4 on the Wii) It feels like a bit of a step backwards no?

You've also been far too kind to the final boss! It's a total joke. I've played RE5 through multiple times and I know how to do it, but it still takes a small amount of luck and guesswork to do. Blegh!
